"Exploring Holi: A Colorful Journey Through India's Regions"

The birthplace of Lord Krishna, Mathura and Vrindavan, celebrate Holi with great pomp and show. The celebrations start a week before the main day. The famous tradition here is the Lathmar Holi where women beat men with sticks.

Introduced by Rabindranath Tagore, the Nobel Laureate poet, Holi here is celebrated as 'Basanta Utsav' or Spring Festival. Students dress up in spring colours and perform folk dances and songs for visitors.

In Punjab, Holi is celebrated as 'Hola Mohalla'. It's a tradition started by Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru. The festival is marked by a huge fair and it involves demonstrations of martial arts, music and poetry.

Barsana, the birthplace of Radha, celebrates Holi in a unique way. Known as 'Lathmar Holi', women chase men away with sticks. Men protect themselves with shields while they are chased by women.

In Udaipur, Holi is celebrated with a grand and royal procession by the Mewar royal family. The celebration includes a bonfire to mark the occasion of Holika Dahan, followed by music and dance.

In Manipur, Holi is celebrated for six days. The festival is merged with the traditional festival of Yaosang. The main attraction is the Thabal Chongba, a Manipuri folk dance that is performed during the festival.
