Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival, is the most important traditional festival in Chinese culture. It marks the beginning of the lunar new year and is a time for family reunions, feasting, and honoring ancestors. It is also a time to cleanse away the bad luck of the preceding year and welcome good luck, health, and prosperity for the year ahead. Chinese New Year is celebrated with numerous traditional activities. Decorations, typically featuring red and gold colors symbolizing prosperity and happiness, adorn homes and streets. Families gather for a reunion dinner on New Year's Eve, which is considered one of the most important meals of the year. Traditional foods such as dumplings, fish, and glutinous rice cakes are served. The festival period also includes giving red envelopes with money, setting off fireworks to scare away evil spirits, lion and dragon dances to bring good fortune, and visiting temples to pray for the new year. The celebrations typically last for 15 days, culminating in the Lantern Festival.
